It's the Little Things

A call from Eleanor had left Blair in a slightly sour mood before the couple had even sat down for breakfast, which had in turn made Chuck not in the greatest of moods because he'd taken great care to make sure she woke up incredibly happy.
The first one of the day came as he set her coffee down in front of her with a kiss. It was just a soft murmur of how beautiful she looked this morning and as little as it was, it made her smile softly at him and loosened the tension from around her eyes a little. It also made the atmosphere of breakfast better before the two had to part ways for the day. Serena needed a friend after the trying to get attention from her father, so Blair was spending the day with her and Chuck had a healthy number of business meetings to attend. Not even lunch for the two, which is why he'd asked Blair to dinner and a show tonight; to make up for the day of not seeing each other.
They said goodbye outside the Empire, sealed with a kiss before they both got into separate cars and off to start their days. The second came twenty minutes after they'd said goodbye, a small text to tell her that he wished they could spend the day together because she made his day brighter. Relationships were still new to him, he'd never even bothered with them before. But he was trying to do this right and show her what she meant to him.
The third came after she texted him about something going wrong, trying to get her to smile a little after the small mishap. Compliments four through nine came over the course of the day, a couple after he'd heard either through her or Gossip Girl about something that had gone wrong for her and a couple came just because he was thinking about her in the hopes that it'd make her smile as they both watched the clock until it was time for dinner.
The limo pulled up outside the Empire and Chuck got out so he could kiss Blair hello. He also had a surprise for her that already left a smile on his lips after he kissed her, as well it left his arm behind his back.
"You made my day manageable with all nine of your compliments. Thank you, Chuck," Blair murmured softly as she kissed him again.
"I'm glad, but not nine, ten." He just smiled brighter when her head tilted with a frown as she mentally went over everything they exchanged today. Before she could speak he brought his hand out from behind his back to present her with a bouquet of peonies. "I love you, Blair."
Her eyes softened considerably as she took the flowers and listened to him. With a smile, she took that small step and wrapped her arms around his neck to hug him to her as she kissed him. "I love you too, Chuck. Thank you for taking care of me, even if it's little things like this."
"I'll always be here to do this," he murmured as he helped her into the limo. They'd spent a long time getting here and he couldn't see what the future held, but for this moment, this was all he needed.
