Mini Me
Title: Mini Me
Fandom: Anita Blake/OC
Rating: C - for Cute
Summary: Liz receives a furry birthday present from her sister.
Word Count: 365
Liz looked down at the little box with small holes in it that rocked from time to time. Her two year old niece bounced in her hap, giggling every time the box moved. Wary eyes looked up from the box to the blond, “Why is it moving?”
Rae just smiled, the faintest edge of hesitance to it. “Open it and find out.”
Liz could already smell why. Could smell it as soon as Rae had carried the box through the door into her apartment. A birthday present Liz wasn’t sure she’d actually be able to keep. None of that had stopped her from asking that original question though. After a moment of watching her sister, Liz opened the box hesitantly and peered inside. Pale green eyes set in midnight black fur peered back up at her, wide and blinking in the light.
Amy bounced again with a squealed, “Kitty!”
“I know animals don’t always react well to shifter, but I thought if you got her at her youngest, it would be alright?” Rae murmured in the face of Liz’s blank stare down at the little kitten.
She looked like a tiny, so tiny, version of what Liz looked like in her own feline form. Eyes even almost the exact same color as her own leopard eyes. Slowly, Liz offered a hand to the little kitten. There was a small tremble through the feline as it sniffed at the hand, though after a moment a brave shift twinkled in its eyes and she butted her head against Liz’s hand. Scritches were easily given with a smile from Liz before she took the kitten out of the box and set her on the floor to explore.
The black ball of fur bounded around the room a bit before tearing off towards the door as it opened. Liz watched as the kitten made sure to have just enough time for Caleb to toe off his shoes before leaping and landing, playfully but with tiny kitten claws, on Caleb’s foot. The string of swear words from the leopard sent Liz and Rae into a laughing fit, leaving just enough air for Liz to say, “She’ll be more than alright!”
