The soft click of heels on marble was faint compared to the yelling, growling and…hissing? Edana’s head tilted with a frown as she moved through her house in Faerie, following the sounds. Keegan didn’t hiss. Ever. What she walked into in the living room has her feet stop moving just inside the door. It takes a couple heartbeats to register the complete chaos in the room.
Keegan is up on his hind legs, trying to reach the top of the curtains, barking and growling. Kai was hovering close to Keegan, though not too close because every so often her wolf turned to snap teeth at Kai for both the yelling and the getting too close. And the focus of both males in the room clung to the high curtain rod, small, hissing, and way too much puffed orange fur for the poor things own good. She could almost hear the little kitten’s heart hammering in its chest.
She whistled loud, clear, and sharp. The sound echoing through the room, enhanced a little with magic to make sure it caught everyone’s attention. It pulled a wince from Kai as he turned to give Edana guilty eyes. Keegan dropped to the floor, head tilted with the knowledge that he was acting a little too close to his nature and there was a silent apology in a soft ‘Woof’.
Duel colored eyes pinned the Fae, “What exactly did you bring into my house?”
Kai glanced quickly at the orange ball watching from her perch on the rod. “I thought you might like a pet. I didn’t know…”
There’s a soft growl from Keegan, echoed even more softly by Edana. “There’s a reason Keegan is the only animal in this house, Kai. He’s territorial at the best of times.” There’s an agreeable sound from the wolf, holding a hint of ‘Mine’ to Edana’s ears as Keegan moved to settle at her side.
Kai gave a soft sigh, reaching up to the kitten now that Keegan was no longer trying to get to it. It took a moment of evaluating the situation before the orange ball hopped down to the outstretched hand. “No pets for my lover ever, got it.” A soft, rumbled sound from the wolf caused the kitten to grip the hand with tiny, sharp claws and Kai almost dropped to poor girl in pain.
Edana chuckled softly, her hand coming up to her mouth to stifle the chuckle at the glance from Kai. She looked down and pointed a finger at Keegan, a silent command for him to stay that he took with a small sneeze to say he wasn’t happy with it but would do as told. Moving to Kai, she stroked a finger along the kitten’s back, earning a soft purr from it. “It was a sweet thought, just not completely well thought out based on who all lives here.” She leaned up and kissed his cheek. “If you keep it at your place though, we can both enjoy the little ball of fur.”
Kai brightened a little, head turning to catch her lips softly. “My place it shall be.” He was thrilled that while she couldn’t keep the kitten here, she’d still been willing to find a way to keep it.
