A Peaceful Night
Title: A Peaceful Night
Fandom: Anita Blake
Rating: PG
Prompt: "The stars make me feel so small right now."
Word Count: 283
Richard watched Anita move out of the kitchen and onto the porch. He stood for half a heartbeat before turning and moving deeper into the house. He grabbed two blankets before following her outside. The blankets were set on the porch railing and then he moved behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. They stood there for a few minutes, the house and surrounding forest were quiet with everyone but them gone for the moment.
Anita's head tipped back to rest against his shoulder, looking up at both him and the black sky with stars over head. The sky was always darker during the new moon, but the darkness seemed to make the stars shine a little bit brighter. "I thought we were doing a movie tonight."
Richard leaned down to kiss her softly with a smile, "I had a different idea in mind for tonight." He snagged the blankets and slipped from around her, hand catching hers, to move down the steps to the yard. One blanket was laid out on the grass. The other was draped over them once they were settled with Richard on his back and Anita curled up against him, head pillowed on his chest. "The stars were beautiful, thought this would be better."
Anita smiled as one arm settled across his stomach, "Very much. Better than a movie."
Richard's head tilted down to nose her hair a moment, "I'm glad you agree." His hand settled around her and his fingers traced small shapes where they rested. The night sky occasionally made him feel tiny, like tonight. It also helped to make the problems they faced seem a little smaller, a little less important for the moment.
